Dubai:  The launching of licensing and registration process of the national domain name .ae was successfully undertaken a week ago. The department in charge of administration of the .ae domain name at the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority has already certified six firms of companies to offer registration services for the .ae domain name.

The national certified domain name registrars are Du and Etisalat. Internationally the TRA has certified for international firms namely: Instra of Australia, Ascio of Denmark, MarkMonitor of the United States and IPMirror of Singapore.

Individuals are now able to register .ae domain names through the domain registrar’s websites. This has been enabled by the domain administration registry system that makes the registered domains operational immediately if the system has the required features. After the .ae Domain Administration registry system was launched on 3rd   August 2008, the certified registrars started registering .ae domain names.

Currently the .ae administration has six certified registrars while two more are expected to be certified soon. Speaking after the launch, the ICT planning manager at TRA, Eng. Mohammad Al Khamis, told reporters that the .ae administration has developed policy and procedure guidelines that will ensure the certified companies adhere to quality technical skills as well as exceptional customer service. He further added that the TRA has strong interests locally and internationally.
